low pile carpet dash cover ?

Postby adams032903 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 1:19 pm

Thinking about buying one of those low pile carpet dash covers I've been seeing on ebay, they say its a custom fit by the cars make model etc. Has anyone bought anything like that and IS it worth it vs getting my own material at the fabric store and doing it myself ? I mean my dash isn't that bad, just 2 little areas on the ends where its a little cracked/split.

Also, on a different note, I don't know where this would apply on the forum, but what is better ? Standard/reg car insurance or classic car insurance ? Been thinking about getting a 'classic' plate, but not sure I like the limits on mileage and drive time..
thanks :)

Well, for the dash cover, my car luckily came with both the front dash and rear sill cutom covers and may I say how fortunate I am since aside from the normal dried leather seat cracking and missing stereo, my interior is a 9/10

I use the manufactured ones on all my cars. Perfect dashes stay perfect and cracked ones look better. I remove them ~sometimes~ for photos, but they mostly stay in place. If the purists don't like it, tough doodoo.

If you can make one up, more power to ya, but it's just easier for me to have one shipped, and have it fit right.

We after a few back n forth emails to the seller on ebay, I did decide to buy one that is supposedly custom fit for this car on ebay, hubby didn't like the idea of carpet so I went with the velour style in dark blue to match the interior. Will post some pictures once it arrives. :)

Classic car insurance is fine if you drive the car less than a few thousand miles a year, but is probably pointless for a Mark VII as their values tend to be rather low. What you can get from classic coverage is an agreed-upon value so you know what you're getting if it's totaled.

Most of the companies require you to garage the vehicle and not drive it much. Its really targeted at vehicles that's only used to car shows and the like.

I really like the Coverking synthetic suede dash cover I got. It layed down flat right out of the box.

Not cheap but I just don't like the ones made from carpet. NTTAWWT

Just bought a 1990 Escort GT, and I need to cover the dash due to cracks, Has anyone installed a plastic dash cap that you glue over the top of the original dash and how good does it look?
